The show must go on: entertaining our residents during lockdown

Lockdown hasn’t been easy in care homes across the country. But here at Hart Care, in our beautiful spot on The Moors, we’ve used these strange times to refresh our activities programme and figure out ingenious ways to keep the entertainment going.

Refreshing the activities programme

We’ve always been very proud of our extensive activities programme and our staff are keen to keep it fresh at all times. Lockdown has given us a chance to rework our ever popular quizzes, and we’re now running them more regularly than ever.

Lockdown has also been the catalyst for many of our residents rekindling their love for the board game Scrabble. We’re running regular tournaments and the residents are enjoying the competitiveness, even if they promise it’s just for fun.

Regular activities are such an important part of keeping our residents happy and comfortable. If the lockdown continues, we’ll keep finding new things to keep our resident’s minds sharp.

Live entertainment returns to Hart Care

Our residents have always enjoyed the live entertainers we frequently host in the home and during the stricter lockdown rules, live entertainment was sorely missed.

As soon as it was safe to do so, we put our heads together to devise a way we could have live entertainment back in the home and this is what we came up with.

Our entertainer sits behind a glass screen and plays his music. The residents then take a seat in the lounge and relax with refreshments.

The music travels well through the glass and everyone is thoroughly entertained, but most importantly, safe from infection.
